Cordyceps fungus

mum made some herbal chicken soup which was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo delicious!!!!!!!! ( now you understand why i'm so fat!) I super love chinese herbal soups!!!!!

She addes lotsa stuff such as ginseng, tongsam and to my horror, this :





THIS was freaking swimming in my herbal soup OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (actually not so surprised lar, I've known this for years)

This is known as 'dong chong chao' - direct translation - winter bug grass. or more scientifically known as, Cordyceps fungus.

Basically, its a bug in winter then summer, BHAMMMMMMMM! it becomes a grass (sorta) through the process of fungification. The fungus finds a host body and takes over.

Its known for its medicinal values (of which i'm unsure but my mum goes on and on about it something bout energy and general wellbeing) and its like super freaking expensive k. Like RM2000++ for about 100grams?! MY GOD OK. obviously, the more expensive the better quality bla bla bla. but wtf pays so much for WORMS!?!!?!!? THEY'RE NOT EVEN MADE OF GOLD OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These stupid worms are dried and then thrown into delicacies such as herbals soups, birdnests, hamas to make it even more nutritional (i still highly doubt that a super fungied bug gives you superpowers - but hey, the China chinese won several olympics by just eating that and testing negative for drugs!)

it was cheaply sold back then but the prices skyrocketed after its medicinal values were made commercial and people are just dying to buy them. As if they are the elixirs to immortality!

So mum said, 'this is good for you ok. you so weak and fat. drink more. and chew the bugs and swallow them. they are good for you'. WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFf. Already eating birds spit then must eat bugs with FUNGUS growing on them!

Sigh, the chinese really are weird people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
